hello guys. i was thinking about getting a AMD x2 4200+. i now have a 3200+. should i see and notice a difference? i play cod2 and convert movies and stuff. thanks
 
In COD2 there won't be any noticeable improvements unless you play at low resolutions. While COD2 does benefit from dual core, it's only evident when the GPU is not the limiting factor, which it definitely is above 1280x1024. Even 1024 x 768 is a stretch for slightly older cards like X800 or 6800 series.

Converting movies from DVD to DiVX etc. will see a big increase though.
 
I wouln't unless you've got money to burn on slight gaming improvements.
 
Converting movies should be helped a lot by having a dual core IF your using decent, multi-threaded, software. Worst case scenario, you would get a (very) single thread performance increase, also you would be able to do video conversions while gaming :p

Either way, Dual Core is the way of the future, and if you dont pick up your Socket939 Dual core very soon, you will have to buy a new Motherboard, Ram and CPU!

But when you finally do buy a new mobo, ram, and cpu down the line you can get a quad core.
 
In all honesty, do whatever floats your boat. Personally, I'd just stick it out with what you've got and start savin up for your next major upgrade.
 
what else is in your system? maybe there's an upgrade needing to be done elsewhere.
 
If yo uhave Access to Fry's Electronics, I would look at thier weekend specials. I got an X2 4200 and ECS board for $199.00 I did not want the board as I had ordered the DFI UltraII-M2 to go with my AM2 3800. Well I looked at the Fry's deal as being a perfect way to get a spare board here and pay right at Retail for the X2 4200. I could not be happier with a chip. My X2 is runnign @ 2815 and I am not thinking that is a max. I have alot to learn about the AM2 DDR2 memory controller before I can push it further.
