I want to upgarade to a 6600GT (my specs below) but im not sure if its worth it (i'd go 6800GS if it was AGP  ), going any higher would just be too much money into my current rig when im considering buying a completely new one soon, i just need something to hold me off so i can play games at 1024x768. (Its only resolution i'll play a game at unless i buy a better monitor to get better refresh rates. Also a concern is powersupply not sure if its good enough. I only got 1xGfxCard, 1xHD, 1x CdROM, 2xRam. So it shouldnt be close to using up full potential of PSU, but i've heard some horror stories with 6600GT. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

A7V8X-X mobo latest bios, there is a beta but i've heard bad things.
AthlonXP2400+ 2.0ghz (Will not overclock peacefully with this setup not sure why)
2x512mb PC2700 kingston value ram
GF4Ti4800SE
Enermax 350W 26a on +12v rails

hmmm 6600GT is a great idea. As for the horror stories Im yet to hear any.
A 350W should just make the cut, just make sure to plug the power cable at the back of the card.

Ok thanks, but that reminds me, 6600Gt requires extra plugin type deal for power so will my PSU have this extra cable? Has this extra cable always been standard, is it a special type? Or is there a chance my PSU might be too old? Not sure how old it is to be honest.

first you should have an extra molex to connect it too
second if you plan to upgrade soon I would just hold off on getting it

Is this molex connector on the card itself? Ive read the plug is the same power plug size that would usualy be used for a HD? Yes i do plan on upgrading but not really for a few months at least because cant afford it at the moment.

The 6600gt requires a molex connector from your PSU. And yes, its like the ones you plug into the HD's. It's located physically on the card, if you get the 6600gt, you will have no problem distinguishing where you have to connect it. It's extremely easy. My friend had a cheapo 350w PSU that ran the 6600gt fine, so I don't think you will have any troubles. The upgrade from a Ti 4 series to a 6 series is like night and day, I did the same thing.

Skip the 6600gt get your a 6800 they sell for almost the same amount and 6800 blows the 6600gt away

you should also consider a used 9800Pro. Its a little slower than the 6600gt but I think you could save a decent amount. Should be easy to find under $100 used and maybe as low as $80
