Upgrade to X850XT?

So, my stock X300 is getting a little tired and I'm looking to upgrade. It has done exactly what I had hoped it would do, keep my system within budget and get me by until I could upgrade.

This X850XT seems to fit my budget.

How would it compare to an X1600XT or 7600GT that are similar in price?

definately...looking at the olbvion performance tests the x850xt performs as fast as a 7900gt!!
 
The X850XT will be a huge upgrade from an X300.

If you have PCI, a 6800GS is also a worthy opponent to the X850XT. The 7600GT would be an even better upgrade.

My recomendation is the 7600GT.

No, the X850XT outperforms the 6800GS by quite a bit. It's more comparable to the 6800 Ultra. The X850XT and the 7600GT actually peform equally in most tests...

To the OP: Go with the X850XT. It performs much better than that X1600XT and is cheaper than the 7600GT. If you need to have SM3.0 support, however, get the 7600GT.
 
x850xt is faster than the 6800gs and ultra easily and it performs as fast as a 7900gt in oblivion so your choice should be the x850xt
 
7600 GT

The x850XT can not do HDR or sm3.0. Furthermore the 7600 GT requires less power. Also the x850XT does not KILL the 7600GT, the two perform very closely. Its better to get the 7600 GT imo.
 
I haven't read about the X850XT getting killed in benchmarks. I recommended 7600GT because it's quieter, has more recent features (SM 3.0, HDR, etc.) and draws less power. The fan on the X850XT has a very annoying growl, and if you are one of the lucky ones, it also emits a high pitched sound from fan motor that will drive you nuts.

I prefer ATI cards but Nvidia has ATI beat in the mid-range price performance ratio, so I still recommend the 7600GT.
 
I have the x850xt in my main PC, and I am not able to do HDR in oblivion. I prefer the way it looks on my roommate's 6800GS, which can do HDR in oblivion, performs just as good as the x850xt in all D3D games (when he unlocks the 4 pipes), and performs better in all openGL games, and has a better driver interface. Go with nVidia.
