I currently have a Samsung 915n monitor which is great but I am now wanting/drooling over the wide aspect displays. I have narrowed my search down to 3 models....I am not sure which to pick.

#1 - Dell 2005FPW.....nice overall monitor, descent price now ($471 w/shipping & tax). I have read on these forums of people getting it for around $335. Lack of HD support and screen size are I guess the minuses if you wanna call it that.

#2 - Gateway FPD2185W.....is basically identical to Dell's except it has the HD support. Although I've read in numerous posts that people have been having problems with the display ranging from noises, black light and pixel problems.

#3 - Samsung 23" Widescreen HD-Ready Flat-Panel LCD TV....I have seen all the xbox 360 displays hooked up to this monitor and it looks great. It would serve a couple purposes as a TV, comp. monitor and be used on the xbox. It is rather pricey at $1000 but it is capable of doing a lot of things. Keep in mind that I have a Sony 30" HDTV that I was going to hook the x360 up to...but I am getting married in Aug '06 and was thinking of having that TV in the living room and the 23" in the game room/home office.

I do a lot of gaming on my computer so that is something to factor in. I don't really do any graphical work or picture editing. My computer has a eVGA 7800 GT CO video card in it which will probably be upgraded to a 7800 GTX 512mb in the near future so I'm sure it can handle to monitor(s).

Opinions/Comments??
 
I just got the dell 2005 2 days ago and its awesome i was a little concearned at first because after i ordered it i noticed the difference in the specs between the 2005 and the 2405. the 2405 is the one that i read the reviews about and i thought the 20" was the same just smaller but there is a difference in the specs the 2405 has a contrast ratio of 1000/1 and the 2005 is 600/1. But the 2005 is AWESOME bright crisp text and a 3 year warrenty. Very satisfied if I were getting another monitor my choice would be dell 24 "
or dell 20" ( not cuz i think the 24" could be any better Quality wise just BIGGER!
 
yeah, i hear ya....i just can see spending $1200 on that monitor....the Samsung is only $1000 and its 23" compared to Dell's 24".

Anyone else?

If you get either Dell, you have 21 days to return the monitor for a full refund, no questions asked.

Worse case scenario? You try one or both of the Dells, hate them both, return them both and refunded for both and purchase the Samsung

That being said, I love my 2405 but be prepared to fork over money for upgrading your video card to keep it running at its native resolution.

My 7800 GT CO will not handle it? I was planning on upgrading to the 7800 GTX 512mb version in a month or so....will that be ok?

I think that the 2005 is a great bargain (at $335). The 2405 is nice but at $1200 it worries me about future capabilities since it has not HD support. The Gateway does and can be had for $400-600 depending on coupons/deals etc.

The 2405's aren't as pricey as you think, I've seen deals where they go for $800, and sometimes there are deals where computers coupled with dual core technology are included with the 2405 for anywhere from $1000-$1200. All you have to do is wait for them.

I dont need a new computer tho....(and I hate intel)....$800 isnt too bad....just I'll just wait and see as to what comes out next
