hi, I've been thinking of upgrading to sli using 2 6600gt's....is this upgrade worth it? Anyone out there have this setup?

Here is my current rig:
P4 2.8 lga775
512 ddr2
6600 256mb pci-e
 
Well first of all: Do you have an SLI compatible mobo? Also, you should get 1GB of memory before you upgrade. 512MB is simply not enough at all these days, and the 512 is holding back your system most likely.
 
Two 6600GTs is usually not a good buy. It closes you off from adding another higher end card to increase performance, and they aren't that good.

Get one 6800GT and you'll probably get similar performance with a free slot to upgrade again. Newegg had a 6800GT (XFX) for $300 this weekend. That would mean it's (i think) cheaper than two new 6600GTs and equal to the price of two refurb 6600GTs that I saw on the egg. I think that price is only for the 4th though, so unless you buy within 3 hours it will be $350.
