Upgrade to Core 2 worth it?

So I have an X2 5200 on an asus m2nsli deluxe motherboard with 2 gigs of pqi turbo ddr2 memory. My graphics card is an 8800 GTS. FSP 450 WATT PSU
Hoping that I can use my current memory in a Core 2 setup what kind of processor/motherboard pairing would improve performance in gaming considerably and at a decent cost? Thanks.

Probably not worth it in your case. Yeah the Core 2 is faster, but in games your probably more GPU bound than anything depending on the resolution your running at.

Well first, what games do you normally play? There are only a few noticeable games that are really CPU bound: Supreme Commander (and its expansion) and World in Conflict.

Dont be fooled into thinking your cpu is slow becuase its not cd2. you have a cpu that is fast enough for all modern games.
