Hello all ,

I just upgraded to a QX9650 and i get the 790i FTW and the memory [ Ripjaws ] F3-12800CL7D-4GBRM (2Gx2) , the stepping for the cpu is C6 , so can i hit the 4ghz+ ? what is the best cpu cooler to handle 1.4v+

If you're going to keep that socket 775 I really liked my Megahalems. It ran 4.0 easily on a Q9550 and never broke 59c with it, and that was running IntelBurnTest. Average gaming was about 43c, and idle was about 30. Ambient temp was about 68F.

+1 ..I too have the Prolimatech Megahalems with (2) 120mm fans on it. It has been such a beast.. I have a 2600K under it right now and I can easily hit 5ghz (if I feel the need to bench my processor). Otherwise, I sit comfortably at 4.6 - 4.8 ghz for 24 / 7 use. It has never failed me.

LMAO!! Thats the first thing I thought too. I thought Id read it wrong and that was his budget for the CPU!

My $30 Hyper 212 is going a great job keeping my X6 in the low 30's under load. Cant imagine youd ever need anything anywhere near $200 for cooling unless you were trying to break a world record or something.

Don't go with a closed loop water cooling solution. Go with this kit later on you can add another rad and a GPU block plus its performance will be much better than a closed loop.
