I am looking to slowly upgrade my system to be more EQ2 friendly when it comes out. Just by looking at those videos scare me, and I remember in the first everquest I would have to run around with my head down to avoid massive lag.
I've been out of the hardware scene for awhile so I am not sure whats in and decently future proof. I'm not really looking for TOP of the line stuff, but I difinently want something decent.

Here's what I have now, and have had for a a little over a year now. It's done good and still is for the most part.. but I know its time to upgrade, especially after getting owned by Hitman 3.

Epox Mobo
512 DDR
GeForce 3 Ti200
Sound Blaster Live


I thought about upgrading video and sound card so I can use that with my current system and that will help a bit, then save up a few checks for a full memory/mobo/proc upgrade.. And working at bestbuy should help a bit for HD/Memory prices...

I also need a good pair of headphones and a new monitor.. not sure if I should get that first or not.

Anyways, if it were all upto you, what would you go for first and everything else in what order?
 
I'd upgrade in this order:

1. Video Card
2. Motherboard/Memory/Processor
3. Hard Drive
4. Monitor
5. Sound Card
6. Headphones

Video Card is a very important thing to have for gaming...more than a better processor 2100 good enough for now.

Then get the mb, memory, processor to add to your gaming experience, to make it run a bit smoother.

I think you included a hd (if not then forget this), If your hard drive is older you may want to upgrade to a 8mb cache hd.

Don't know if your monitor is good but, don't go for lcd because you need to pay alot for a lcd that doesn't "ghost" images. Get a good 17" or 19" monitor that can display 1600 x 1200.

Sound Card and Headphones are the least important because you already have a pretty good sound card but you could upgrade to a Audigy 2 or something.
 
my upgrade advice for that box is, don't. Your old box would make an excellent file server or junk box for learning new skills but it all the technology in it is pretty much worthless in todays terms.

I suggest to start working the OT and beg the partents for money for Christmas and builld a new box from scratch. Look to spend anywhere between $500-1000 for a decent to awesome box.

If your not an OCer, watch the Frys ads for a proc/mobo combo. I saw one a few weeks ago for a A64 3000 and some POS MB for $200.

Shop around between gound stores and Online for the best prices on everything and you could build a truely kick ass box for not a lot of scratch.
