I figured for $144.98 shipped, it was a pretty decent bargain. I'm now looking for a processor, case, PSU and maybe a HS&F if money permits. I need a PSU that will support a 6870 and if I get bored some night, some cpu unlocking/oc'ing. The video card I won't be buying until income tax return, so another 1.5-2 months.

Here are my recommendations for the processor, power supply, case, and CPU cooler. They come out to around $210 before shipping or taxes.
Thats fairly solid, But I would change the Cooler & case to This (cheaper shipped cost & basically the same unit, Plus much cheaper AR) & this. 10 bucks more shipped, But alot better designed case.
Overall Shipped cost is 236.45 compared to 231.15.. So a 5.30 difference in the end (before MIR of course)..
Would you pick the coolermaster case over the Antec 300 Illusion that is on sale for $54.99 shipped today? $5 cheaper and has 4 fans instead of 1... Just curious.

Or should I should buy a quad core phenom and spend the initial cost and not overclock or attempt to unlock and also just use the stock cooler? There's so many options to choose from. I just want something that's going to last as I usually only build once every 4 years or so.

I'd pick the Cooler Master case as it has more usable space than the Antec Three Hundred.
I recommend sticking with either the Corsair A50 or the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus: they're essentially the same thing. However, I'd go with the Phenom II X4 955 and call it a day. This is just my opinion, but I personally would rather just have all four cores available from the start.

Thanks for your help everyone. I ordered the corsair a50, that coolermaster case, phenom II X3 and a 600 watt OCZ modular PSU. I have 2 120mm fans I am going to swap from my old case into the new one. Only thing left to buy is a video card which I'm going to wait on for a little while anyway.
Total for everything was: $373.44 not including the $35 MIR's. So I am pretty happy with the cost.

OCZ is known for making sub par PSU's.. Please respond back with the actual model as soon as you can se we can look it up & tell you if your any better off.

It shouldn't be TOO awful unless he loads it over 500w, which he likely will not do with this build with a single vid.
Ouch. But then again, my "less than stellar PSU" never gave me an issue nor was it under extreme load. So we'll see. No need to jump to conclusions.
I made a mistype on the X3 and meant X2. My stuff came today and the pins were bent on the processor since I ordered OEM
I'm RMA'ing it and spending an extra $5 on the 555 BE (retail) since it suddenly came down like $5 in price in the past 2 days? The case is pretty beast and I just mounted my new fans in it. I also was shocked at how large the CPU heatsinks have gotten in the past few years. It makes my zalman look tiny!Stop. No, your PSU won't die on you the moment you turn it on. But many of us here have had bad experiences with "less than stellar" power supplies, hence our recommendations.
Actually he didn't ignore us.. he changed his old PSU out which is what we said, He just did it without asking for what a good one would be, The only PSU suggestion that was made in the thread was danny on the 1st page recommending a Antec, After that the OP actually said he may get a different antec, but he changed it to an OCZ without discussion..
So in all realism he did listen I upgraded his crap ass PSU, & if he simply went off newegg reviews most OCZ PSU's are great, but jsut because we know better doesn't mean everyone else does.

Well Although the OCZ isnt a good quality PSU & would could have done better for the money, Its still going to be better then your old one. Antec PSU's are typically good quality, but Rosewill PSU's I would avoid like the plague.. They are a generic store brand made by the lowest bidder. Ram wise I like mushkin, but they tend to be more expensive then the equally as good g.skill. Mobo wise Asus is my 1st choice & recently I have a new found respect for Biostar. Gigabyte's are also good. Abit is now non existent in the US.

Actually the OCZ StealthXtream II series is pretty good... but I doubt that's what he got.

Got the pc up and running. Had an issue with drivers and windows BSD's so I had to do a fresh install again of windows. CPU unlocked all 4 cores (followed the guide here) with ridiculous ease. The only gripe I've had on the parts besides the oem cpu having bent pins and 1 being broken, was the shitty lockdown clamp for the Corsair A50. For the life of me I couldnt get it completely squared up on the cpu. Idle temps bounce back and forth between 28-29*C in bios, and 25*C in AMD overdrive, idle with the cores unlocked. I haven't logged a load test yet with the cores unlocked as I've been downloading updates and game patches. Once I do that I'm going to OC it a little and leave it be. I love the cooler master case along with the extra fans I put in. It moves some serious air.

Wait, one of the CPU pins was broken?? I'd send that back.
Clearly if you read post 51 you would know that I sent it back for a retail version. I've been working on pc's and in the IT field for 13 years now.
When a customer strictly wants that rosewill case because it comes with a 450W psu, then that's what they get.
