I built my system a few years ago.

Current specs are:

CPU: Intel Core i5-2500k (running at Stock speeds0
HSF: XIGMATEK HDT-S963
MB: Biostar TZ77A (Very good overclocking ability)
RAM: 8.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 666MHz (9-9-9-24) (Generic branded? Hardly remember)
GPU: 2 x Radeon 4870 512MB Crossfire (More or less a 5870~ or so)
OS: WIndows 8 Enterprise (MSDNAA Copy from work)

I've only gamed casually, but I'm looking for more variety than just my Xbox, and I have a shit-ton of steam games that I don't play nearly enough...

As far as I can tell, I run most games at medium-high quality with no problems, although I would like to try the newer Crysis and Far Cry games, and I'm not sure how they will fare with this hardware.

I assume the 2500k can be overclocked, and given that I don't run anything else on this system (no video encoding, etc) and use the xbox for video streaming, I think it's salvageable at this point

The computer does host my RAID Array with all my personal data, and that's going to get moved to a server/NAS at some point, bu that's another project altogether.

Recommendations would be great!

Thanks,

Adam

As always, we need to know what your display resolution is. Without knowing that I'd say get a Nvidia GTX 770 or an AMD R9 290 if you can find one close to retail.

Better to try first before buying. If you're forced to turn the graphics down to the point where you start to cringe, then maybe you can update this thread and ask for an upgrade.

If the graphics/performance is still acceptable to you, go and save money 'til the time you really need to upgrade.

No higher than 1920 x 1200. every now and again i back it down to 1920 x 1080 to play on my 51" Samsung Plasma

Beyond that, no real requirements. Just looking for 45 FPS w/Medium-High quality on newer shooters coming out this year.
