Upgrade recommendations (from 9800PRO)

Now I have to choose which model. Is BFG, the only good choice? Or should I consider others like Gigabyte, MSI, etc?

After getting some help in general hardware, I've decided that a video card upgrade would be best suited for me. I plan on using this system for at least another year and a half. Here are my current specs:

MSI K8N Neo Platinum
AMD Athlon 64 3200 s754
Corsair XMS 1 GB PC3200
Radeon 9800 PRO 128mb
Antec NeoPower 480w Powersupply

Now I only have AGP to work with, and I am not going to buy a new mobo/CPU combo to get me there since PCI-E is still relatively new. Anyway what would be the best upgrade from a 9800 Pro for my rig? 6800GT? X800XL? Other?

Also would it be a wiser decision to wait for the next gen of cards to buy it (IE wait for the 7800GT AGP)?

All input is greatly appreciated, no matter how small.

I wasn't aware of that. Meh. Eitherway, I'd prefer to get my new card soon anway (next month) because of Battlefield 2 anyway.
 
I remember reading that but can't find it again. Don't take it as gospel that there won't be an AGP version. I'm sure the folks here will quickly correct me if I'm wrong.

i can almost say for certain there WILL be 7800's on AGP, nVidia said the same about 6200's and 6600's but look wheer we are now :D

depending on your price range id say 6800gt/ultra or a 7800GTX if they come out on AGP

If I remember correctly the the price/performance for the 6800GT was worth buying it over the 9800PRO. That is correct, right? Also the 6800GT is the one to go with versus the X8 series correct?
 
The 6800gt is a big jump, I went from a 9800pro-leadtek 6800gt and it helped ALOT, maybe even close to double the performance. And yes, the X8 series is ATI's competing serires. Either way, if you do get an x800xt, or a 6800 gt, youll be set..
 
6800GT AGP especially since you are keeping it for a year and a half, it has SM3.0 and FP16 HDR which are used by new games unlike the X800XL.
 
I was in the same boat as you. I have a 9800pro 128 meg and needed to upgrade my system to something faster and only had AGP available to me. So I went out and bought a 6800 Ultra. I am hoping that it lasts me more then 2 hours which seems to be the current upgrade cycle now.

Are you talking about the chip or the cards based on the chip? I have no doubt that the chips are going to only be made to support PCIe but NV has a good PCIe/AGP bridge chip that they say can be used on any chip. The end result would be no different than the situation with 6600GTs, so you'll probably see 7800s on AGP.
 
6800GT kicks ass. Best bang for the buck imo. Or for much cheaper, the 6600GT, but the 6800GT is worth the extra money.
