Hi,

Some background info:

I have a lapped e2140 OC'ed to 3.05Ghz on a Gigabyte DS3L, 8gigs of ram, and an 8800GTS card pushing a 24" @ 1920x1200 on Vista 64. Primary use is photo editing, and secondary is gaming.

Everything I do runs perfectly fine on this setup, but I was just wondering since I haven't kept up with the latest hardware trends, if upgrading the cpu at this time would give me any noticeable gains in either one of my uses. I usually batch process hundreds to thousands of raw images and do post-processing in both Nikon Capture NX2 as well as Photoshop, so I have quite a few things going on at the same time.
 
yes it would, considerably. esp if your software will take advantage of a quad core.

an E8400 would be an excellent upgrade. a Q9550 would be also be good. but you did not give a budget.

its also a good time to upgrade video cards. a 140 dollar 4850 will smoke that 8800GTS. the GTX260 have come down almost half of what they were several months ago.
