Okay, I currently have a Biostar Tforce 6100 AM2, X2 3800+, 7900GT with an NV Silencer on it, FusionHDTV Tuner, and a Lian Li PC-V300. I also have this computer hooked up to a Onkyo HT-S790. I have not been able to get the SPDIF to output 5.1, except if it is playing a DVD. It is only using the LR channels, and as a result I was thinking about getting a new motherboard or mobo+processor that had on-board SPDIF optical port versus using the PIN headers on the mobo itself. Now my question is, is it a worthy upgrade to buy a new mobo and get a cheap C2D, such as the E4300 for $80 from Fry's, or should I just buy another AM2 motherboard? Before anyone says it, the only slot where I could put a sound card would be the PCI-e 1x slot, but I haven't seen any sound cards that use that slot.
On a side note, what is the pin mod on the E4300?
