Hi,
I am really sorry if this is in one of the stickies. I read through a lot of them, but there is so much info there to digest.
I have purchased a new video card that requires a minimum 350W PSU for my Sony Vaio desktop. I have also purchased a new PSU. I want to put all of this together, but something worries me. Although people at local big box stores tell me I can buy an off the shelf PSU, I am worried about output voltages to my mobo and other components. I do not know if Sony uses proprietary voltages for these connections, but I am led to believe they do not.
I have run a Sandra analysis of my system. It says the CPU voltage is 2.59V. The lowest voltage output on the PSU is 3.3V, which is a relatively new ATX standard. I do not yet know if this is the 20 + 4 pin connectors for the mobo or not yet. Does the PSU have to supply power to anything else on the mobo other than the CPU? If so, it seems logical that 3.3V will be OK. I imagine that in order to power the entire mobo, it has to be provided more power than just what the CPU needs, although I do not know for sure.
Do you know whether Sony uses proprietary voltages and if an off the shelf PSU will be OK? I do not want to fry my mobo or my new video card.
