I'm in the process of a major upgrade to my computer, basically a whole new PC, lol. Well the question is this, I'm planning on ordering an i7 920 and I'm wondering if it is good enough at stock speeds to make the deadline for the -bigadv to get the most Ppd? If not then what is the optimal OC for it to get the bonus? Also planning on going with the Ultra ChillTec Black CPU Cooler, opinions?

Thanks in advance :).

it will barely make the bonus but I feel it will at sock, but most people run 3.5-3.8, getting a bit over 20k, higher for higher OC obviously

i7 is the way to go.... unless you start getting into dual Xeon rigs.

I advise against that cooler. I recommend that you go with a good heatsink like the TRUE, Megahalems, etc.

ok since everyone's pushing the sales of their heatsinks... Scythe Mugen 2! :D goes for $30, very big, room for up to 4 fans, about the same results as TRUE, when using 1 fan.

OK so i guess i should list some of the other components I'm planning on getting, including case.

Case.
PS, cause the one i have is a toughpower and its been great.
MB, yea iI know i could get a cheaper one but i like this one, lol.
Ram.

I'm still gonna look around to see if I can get the same stuff cheaper somewheree else but this is what I'm gonna go with. I'm gonna keep my present vidio cards cause they are good little folders :D. Also gonna reuse my current HDD's.

Hopefully this will be a good build, has to last me awhile :(;).

What GPUs will you be using? That PSU is most likely overkill, and if you do end up needing that much power, there are better choices available. That Thermaltake PSU is based on an old design and is very overpriced.

Just reusing the cards in my sig ( 2- GTX275's). yea I know its overkill like my current one was at the time (2 years ago). But I was just thinking of down the road for when I decide to upgrade the GPU's. Kind of future proofing iI guess, lol. Also my current PS is an Antec TP so I kind of wanted to stay with that line since I've had 0 problems with my current one.

If you know of a better PS thats the same wattage then by all means please let me know, If I can shave a few $$$ of this build with the same specs then I'm all for it :).

Corsair H50! Love it!! Running at 4GHz!!
Thanks, thats the one I'm gonna go with after looking at some reviews and seeing the price is also lower than the one I was gonna go with :).

Also a thanks to you too. Looks like a great PS and cheaper.

Thanks guys, that's why I love this site :).

I should be ordering everything today, so sometime next week I should have this baby Folding :).

Ok guys, Ive got my system up and running with the H50 and the PS that Zero recommended, thanks guys.
I've overclocked it to 4GHz stable, around 40c idle and 73 running at 100% with a VM set to -bigadv.
Now I have a problem here. HFM.Net shows up in blue while FahMon is green. what one is more acurate here ?
Also I'm not real sure what I'm gonna get for points here, both show a different number.
Also based on this, what do you all think I'll be pulling for a bonus once I complete my 10 WU's?

Thanks :).

I use HFM and it looks right.

Enter your TPF time here and it will tell you your PpD and bonus!

HFM is more accurate because it estimates the bonus factor into the PPD column for both -bidadv and -advmethods SMP clients.

FahMon does not currently account for the bonus factor and explains the difference you see between the two programs.

Not sure on the yield.

Ok, well that explains that, thanks.
Now shouldn't it show up green on the status instead of blue? Not sure what the blue means, lol.

Not bad, according to that calculator I'll be pulling in almost 27K PpD. :).

HFM shows so many friggin colors i have no clue what they mean.. my gpu clients will constantly change from gray, to yellow then to green.. then back to yellow.. i just quit paying attention to the colors.. it might be showing blue because of it being a VM client..

Ok, thanks everyone. I'm loving this new build. Darn thing screams compared to my old 6400+ system, lol.
Next I'll be running the 2-275's again for even more points :D.

Once again, thanks everyone :).

Blue in HFM mean async - you VM system clock does not match you host system clock. It will work fine in async mode, so don't worry about it.
