I currently have 2 EVGA 7900 GT's in SLI. How would a 320MB 8800GTS perform compared to the 2 7900GT's? What about a 640MB 8800GTS? I currently game at a resolution of 1680x1050 and Vista x64 Ultimate.

The reason I'm looking for a change is I'm plagued with the common issues that the 7900's have (diaginal lines).

TIA.

[edit] Typo in subject. LSI should read SLI.

At that res you'd be much better served by a 640MB 8800 GTS or a GTX/Ultra than the 320MB 8800 GTS.

I believe that no matter which of the above you go with, they'll be faster than the 7900s in modern titles.

I went to a single 8800GTS 640 from a 7800GT SLi setup that was volt-modded and overclocked. I have been very impressed with the 8800GTS. It runs faster, cooler, uses less power, and I don't have to wonder if my game is going to benefit from SLi. I game at 1680x1050 also and would recommend the single card option over your current configuration. When the next-generation Nvidia cards come out, I will probably upgrade my 8800 and continue single-card.
