Hi all

I have two computers that are eligible for upgrading. System 1 is a PIII866@911, Asus P3V4X mobo,512 PC133, ATI Radeon 7000, SB Live! System 2 is an AMD Duron 800, Biostar M7IVW mobo, 192PC100, Radeon 7200, onboard audio

System 1 can only take up to 1G CPU and System 2 can take up to an Althon XP 2400+ 266fsb and DDR266 Ram.

I was wondering should I replace the cpu in system on with say, a Radeon 9200 or should I go and replace the cpu/ram in System 2 and replace the vid card later. The upgraded rig would be connected to my home LAN for gaming purposes.

I would upgrade system 2 with CPU and ram. It has an AGP slot? You know you can get the Athlon XP M Cpus at Newegg. They have 266MHZ FSB, 512 K cache and run less than $100 US. Great overclockers. AGP cards are getting really cheap too. I've seen ATI 9600s for about $100
 
Go with #2. Go buy an XP Mobile 2400+ and some decent PC2700-3200 memory. If your mobo supports it you can get some very nice OC'ing out of that chip, via multiplier and/or FSB. :p
 
Thanks everyone. I was actually leaning towards upgrading system #2, as it has the most upgrade potential of the two rigs.
 
can such an old board even use a barton core.. granted, its at 266, but that is easily changed...
