Im thinking about adding another card for crossfire and I havent been following hardware lately so I need some advice. I originally had 2 6970s in crossfire that allowed me to run eyefinity resolutions comfortably, but when one of my cards took a shit I RMA'd it and received a 7850 in its place. That worked out fine because I was building a secondary pc and just used each video card in each pc. But now I wanna get back into gaming in eyefinity and need some more GPU power.

I'm pretty sure I should get another 7 series card and not even think about getting another 6970. I'm not familiar with the GHZ editions or the 7870 XT versions. So should I get another 7850 or 7870 to run in crossfire or sell my current 7850 and get a 7950? I was checking prices and see that 7850 can be had for as little as 200 after rebates. What should I b e looking to get?

Thanks,
Dave

First, you got ripped off if they sent you a 7850 - they should have sent a 7870 at least and more like a 7950. Ideally they should have sent 2x7870 or 2x7950 to maintain your Crossfire (you would have probably had to send in your other 6970 to get that).

Second, how important is it to do this now? You might prefer to wait for the next generation of cards to appear.

Third, what resolution are you playing? If you are doing 7680x1600 then Crossfire 7950/7970 is in order.

Fourth, what games are you playing? For comparison purposes look at this article:
