well im in a bit of a pickle
i have a very old computer (maybe 5 years old?)
i have put off a new computer until conroe and my old computer has been serving me fine
well, a few weeks ago, my ti4200 died and i'm currently borrowing my friends mx440 *sadface*
well with school about to end and all, i need to return it to him and get another
my current motherboard only has agp and i expect that my new one will only have pci-e
now that's the problem, what should i do?
should i buy a cheap agp?

thanks for any advice

I would buy a cheap AGP card and wait for the Conroe prices to go down a bit before buying it, I would go with a X800GTO or look for a cheap AGP card on ebay.

If you HAVE to buy it, I would just avoid the headache and just upgrade now.. I mean think about it, youre either going to have to upgrade now or upgrade later..

AMD 64 +3000 = $135 shipped
Any $50 pci-e motherboard = $55 shipped
Ati x1600pro = $100 and is a huge step over your current OR,
Ati x850xt = $170 shipped.

Hell, if you wanted to go budget, get an x700pro.. its STILL a huge step over your old card and well under $100.

Total = about $250..
A big upgrade + not having to worry about upgrading in the future after you JUST upgraded.. priceless.

i would say get a cheap card and hold out for what you really want.. look at newegg's refurbs for a ati 9600/nvidia mx4000 ... they run for around $30
