Hmmm..... Well a 7970ghz is about 20% faster than a GTX670. The 280x is faster than a 7970ghz obviously due to the higher clock. Hes looking at about 20-30% more performance depending upon the title. Thats a pretty good jump.
I guess the GTX680 is unneeded as it will beat out a 7970ghz and a 280x. Must be false benchmarks everywhere of how the 7970 can beat out a GTX680 and that a GTX680 loses to a GTX670.
My apologies.
hardocp said:What we found was that the GeForce GTX 680 was able to keep up with the Radeon HD 7970 at 2560x1600 quite well. In every game we tested the highest playable setting we found with the GeForce GTX 680 was at 2560x1600. We were able to match the gameplay settings and experience exactly with a Radeon HD 7970 at 2560x1600. In fact, we were surprised to find that the GTX 680 not only matched the gameplay experience of the Radeon HD 7970 at 2560x1600, but in most cases the framerates were a bit faster with the GTX 680.
hardocp said:AMD's claim that this is the "World's Fastest and Most Versatile GPU" is somewhat of a stretch. In the games we tested we were only seeing a performance increase that we expect to see from any overclocked Radeon HD 7970. AMD also states that the AMD Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition is "Retaking the Performance Crown," but with the highest stable overclock the performance was not better than an overclocked NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 as we showed here and here.
Gentlemen, allow me.
GTX670 vs 7970GHZ Ed, which is basically a 280x.
The 670 gets stomped in some, fights back well in others. Note the BF3 scores.
Anandtech review.
Anandtech, toms, and hexus are all pretty inconsistant with their reviews. If you want to trust them, by all means go for it. I'll stick to hardocp's methods because they have been as close to what I have experienced when I purchased hardware.
Really? Anandtech is a very, very esteemed member of the review website cadre..and have been in that position for a decade+.
I don't think you read anandtech.Anandtech review.

I'll stick to hardocp's methods because they have been as close to what I have experienced when I purchased hardware and use a broader scope than just giving some kind of chart that just says "fps". Those reviews remind me too much of when you hear someone say "I can MAX out X game with FULL ULTRA settings", then you look at their settings and sure the slider is at "ultra", but then you notice they are playing at 720p with no AA etc.
I know you are going to come back and say "but LLoose!! but LLoose!! Its not the GHZ edition!!"
So heres another link.

He could probably sell his card EASILY for $250 and it would only be a $50 price increase to goto a 280x. It would definitely be worth it IMO.
