I have my system as in sig.

I am considering upgrading with an i2500K, Noctua C-14 (and some more letters), 8 GB of Memory, 120GB Crucial M4 SSD and Windows 7 but keep Case, PSU, GPU and drives.

Good idea or bad idea? I mainly use this for games and BF3 is straining my computer.

Chances are you wont really notice much of a difference buying a whole new setup while keeping your old video card. I think if you just want better performance out of your current system, try doubling your RAM to 4GB since your CPU isn't holding that 460 back enough to really justify upgrading unless you're getting a new GPU and a overclocked 460 should play BF3 decently since a 560 is what's recommended, which is basically a 470 which your overclocked 460 should be comparable to.

If you plan to get a new video card, where you'll notice a much more improvement in performance then I'd recommend upgrading that CPU as it'll be limiting you.

RAM will help out your current system by a large margin. What version of Vista is running on that box? 64 bit? If not, then it might be worth it to just upgrade your system with a W7 build.

Can you fill out the sticky questions though, if you still wanna upgrade your system?

You might also be able to just add another 460 along with the upgraded parts, but before I did that I'd do a price comparison to see whether that is cheaper than selling your current 460 and getting a 6950 or 570. I'm not sure that PSU is good enough for SLI 460s.

Thanks both of you. :)

I'll see what a straight up memory upgrade will give me, after all it's a fairly cheap thing to try (3-3.5 GB should help over 2).

If that doesn't get me anywhere I'll look into getting a new box.

I don't think SLi is worth it for 1680x1050 resolution.. go with a single card setup.

I certainly wouldn't SLI new cards, but getting a second 460 might be a lot cheaper than upgrading to a new card - I don't know what pricing is like on used 460s. Two 460s is what, GTX 570 territory, at least?

Used ones can be had for around $120 or less. I recently bought a NIB one on the forums here for $135.
