Upgrade my X850XT?

I just want some input whether I should upgrade my X850XT? It certainly isn't a dinosaur but 1. it seems to make a heck of a noise when it reaches the 90*C mark (beeps going off and fan speed increasing) and 2. the X1k architecture seems to offer new technology (HQ AF/AA+HDRFP16) and even the 7900GT seems to be speedy AND a one slot solution.
I don't know if it is the best idea but like i said I just want your thoughts on the matter. Maybe I should just wait for vista and do a big system overhaul?
 
just wait!. i downgraded to the x850xt from an x1800 xl . prices keep dropping. ill never spend over 300 bucks on a card anymore.
 
I upgraded to an X1800 XT from an X850 XT. Prices are good on this card now, so you won't have to break the bank. It's a great card, I can play Oblivion AAx4 AFx16 +HDR at 30fps average and it's wonderful.

Of course you could wait for..whatever is coming next.

EDIT: I just read the rest of your post. My recommendation is to go ahead and upgrade to an X1800XT or X1900XT/XTX now. Don't wait for vista to come out, every time MS releases a new OS there are tons of bugs. Not that we know WHEN vista is being released anyways. Another point is that DX10 will not be mainstream for a long while. Look HDR and other DX9 goodies are only now becoming mainstream. It took a looooong time for this to happen.
 
Did you check the main heatsink for dust build-up? My card was hitting 90C until I got rid of the dust, now it hits 78C max.

I did and even applied AS5 on the heatsink in hope of better conduction but no :(
The X1900XTX looks great too but I heard it's got a massive fan too, maybe wait for the R580+ or whatever to see if it lowers prices?
 
hmm...keep your fan speed at 100% but uve probably already done that....

do you have good airflow in your case?

mine only hits 67 max after a couple of hours of fear

how many fans do you have in your comp? and is there a huge wall of wires in the middle to block airflow?

why not just get an aftermarket cooler for it and save money until dx10 cards?
 
Yeah I may do so but space is tight in my comp due to there being a big 120mm fan on the processor and dual slot graphics card :D
In terms of fans I have an aftermarket cpu cooler, heatsink on graphics card (stock) and psu. As far as I know anyway, so I don't have any fans really to exhaust the air...

thats why its sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo hot.... :(

do a bit of diy, get drilling and add some exhaust fans :p
 
It such a scary prospect >.<
I have no tools for this sort of thing, may be able to get some fans which fit the case as it is (they usually leave spare rbackets and stuff for this sort of thing yes?)

yeh they should do....it should be on the back of the computer under the psu..space for 2 exhaust fans

you can get nearly silent fans now :)
 
Yeah I was looking on that website (Brit too, bought nearly whole rig off this site). And because the price isn't anywhere near as bad as I thought it would be I'm gonna get an arctic cooling heatsink for my graphics card too, no more heat issues for me :D

I get that a lot it's in the north east near newcastle

Anyway, in terms of fans for my case, i'm just going to get any old 120mm (probably find one with the best noise/heat ratio ;) )
