bought my e6600 core duo about a year ago (runs upwards 3.5 stable)...what would be a good upgrade ?...E6750,E6850,Q6600 or maybe this from the egg OEM Q6600 Kentsfield for 260.00,or stick with what I got ?maybe a newer more current motherboard ,mostly used for gaming ...Thanks great forum
 
Wait until January then buy a newly released Penryn quad processor. You will need a P35 or X38 chipset for these. (Some 965 also will support Penryn)
 
What is the E6600 not doing that you want it to? That processor is still a beast.

I'd say until you are not happy with the processor anymore, that's when you should upgrade.
 
No reason to replace an E6600 running at 3.5GHz at all. Wait until Nehelam, or maybe a Penryn if it's cost-efficient.
 
it's been beaten to death but there is nothing out that is much faster than an e6600. Hold out for a new line, I heard intel is about to release a 45nm line somewhere
 
My E6600 (benches @ 3.6, 3.4 24/7) is getting dumped for an E8500 in January. 4.2GHz+ 24/7 on silent air here I come.

Don't need no stinking quad core.
