Currently rocking 5 years ago built 2500k z77 assrock extreme 4 stock clocks or close to it. I have bad luck with computers (many times unexplained errors) so didn't try overclock. Also have stock 3570k 2600k combos not being used.
280x crossfire 1440 or 4k res 60hz cap 43" tv. Play bf4 bo3 command conquer almost no encoding. Just main rig duty.

Do I upgrade ? Planning on grabbing 480x crossfire or 1070 or 1080. Money doesn't matter a lot but I like to get good value or awesome quality.

Thoughts?

Some kind awesome value for performance be nice like Xeons but the motherboards seem expensive for x99. :) thanks
Maybe want to spend 3-400 at most for cpu 250for mobo

5820k 2011
Xeon 2011
Skylake 1151
Or
Wait little longer and over clock to 4.5 on the h70i or something like that it's got now.
4k with every game 60 fps be nice gfx budget 500 sli and crossfire is cool but lower temp in house is also good 280x seem to heat the room

If your current machine doesn't provide unacceptable 1440p performance in BF4, BO3 and C&C then you won't really get good value from any upgrade.

Are you encountering bad framerates you'd like fixing? Do the unexplained errors still happen?

It seems to all run fine.Games that only use 1 gpu won't work with 4k. I am sure games will get more and more needy. I'd like to run 4k not 1440p.

Dual 4k 42" or triple on there sides would be very cool. But maybe unreasonable with out 2x1080.I don't need all the shadows and things as much as I need crisp high res. Hope give enough detail

You might want to hold your horses and wait for the 1080Ti, and then get a couple of those for 4K.

Budget for gfx is 5 or 600. This thread is focused on cpu / motherboard. I see lots in same boat. Maybe I should swap to 3570k put new paste and overclock to 4.2ghz.. less heat and electricity use would be nice tho with 110f temp during California summer.

I think you will probably see a pretty healthy gain in going from a 2500k / 3570k to a 6700k, assuming that you are cpu bound in your games, and where multi threading is not setup well as the single thread ipc is about 30% faster than sandybtridge. Especially if you go m.2 ssd with nvme ;) Personally if you don't want to mess with it, a single gpu might be a way better route than crossfire or SLI. I went from crossfire (well triple for a real short bit) 290x's to a 980Ti and am way happier from a heat and noise, random black screens and weird gaming junk going ons. The 980ti is probably on par to your dual 280x's (GPU 2015 Benchmarks - Compare Products on AnandTech). I am kind of sad that the 1080gtx vs 980ti in 4k is not that impressive, maybe 22% at stock vs stock. Still some trouble getting to 60fps in some games, per ananadtech GPU 2016 Benchmarks - Compare Products on AnandTech. But from a power draw/ heat and noise you would be getting a bit better system in a platform that uses less than 400w vs your current 770w system.

I would say wait a little longer unless you want to radically change your entire setup. My current setup works just fine (see signature) but I am moving to a 6700K with a GTX 1080. Why? I am moving to a ITX setup. My pc is in my living room now and I would rather not have a massive ATX tower by the focal point of the room. Being on the X79 platform, buying a ITX motherboard would cost me close to $375 for X79. I ended up saying screw it after checking out some pretty sweet ITX cases.

I hear that. Been looking for a good HTPC case for MATX, it appears there really aren't any that don't cost a ton.

I'd strongly recommend not doing the traditional HTPC but rather look at a client/server model where you put something like an Nvidia Shield at the TV rather than the HTPC. You then don't have to worry about the case. The benefits of a traditional HTPC seem to be waning.

I'd agree, but I'm a console free home. Therefore, my HTPC is my media server and gaming station for kids. (desktop for me--HTPC for them).

You're really mostly GPU limited still, especially if you can keep your 2500K @ 4.5 stable. I would definitely only upgrade the VGA for now since that will easily carry over into whatever new board/CPU combo you go with. Since you're really looking to do 4K I'd say your options are pretty limited at this point on video cards. But that could change within a couple months...
