I have taken the plunge and gone dual core. I took my 939 system and threw it in a stacker 810 with a new ninja on a 4600. My old system was a 3000 Venice on stock hs. It was overclocked a little, but i was waiting for the dual cores to come down a little.
My issue is that hal.dll is corupt or missing. I have installed a fresh copy of XP Pro on another hd i keep for this reason. I tried to copy a new one over, but i think i ran into issues that they were from differing service packs, i can try again later today with the same sp. If I need to reformat I can, I have a full backup of essential files that I do weekly.
I also am wondering what optimization needs to be done once up and running.
So far temps are great. At idle i am looking at 32 in a room that is 28. I will take that. Airflow around the cpu is amazing compared to my old case. I love the stacker.
Questions are:
1. Can I fix the hal.dll problem and get into windows again or should I just reformat?
2. What should I be looking at doing to make sure i am getting all of the stock performance out of the proc before I begin to overclock? I have a good idea, but wanted to make sure I was on the right track.
