I'm going to apologize in advance because I have no doubt that threads like these are a common occurrence, but here I go!

My current system:
Ye olde Antec tower case w/ window
PC Power & Cooling 510w PSU
Abit IC7-G Motherboard
P4 2.4C
2x512MB Kingston Hyper-X PC3200
2x Raptor 36GB HDs in RAID 0
Radeon 9800 Pro
Sony 4x DVD+/- burner
Samsung 8x DVD-ROM
Super-Ultra Floppy Drive 1.44"

I've been considering upgrading within the next month with basically the following:
Watercool Setup Lian Li PC6
MSI Neo4 Platinum
PC P&C 510SLI
AMD x2 4400 Dual core
2x512MB PC3200 (whatever brand I decide on)
1x74GB Raptor (maybe 2?)
G70? (ETA?) or 6800U PCI-e / X850XT PCI-e - why is the x850xt so cheap ($450) in comparison?
2x Lite-On 16x DVD+/- Burners

Now the goal of this is for me to NOT need to upgrade for at least the following two years. Is this a feasible goal, or not? I'm starting to feel the strain on my current system and I'm not a very patient person when it comes to slow downs and hiccups in games.

Is this a decent upgrade path, or should I wait it out?

Any advice and insight is much appreciated!

My 2.4C Did 3.2Ghz Easy on Air... its an outstanding CPU. I am not gonna upgrade yet. I will wait unitl Mid September Time Frame.

Looks like a nice setup, but I'd probably wait on the video card. Get everything else, put in the 9800pro, and I'd think that'll last you until christmas time when you can get a newer high end card.

That would be nice if the mobo he was gettng had an agp slot...or does it?

:*( Didn't even think about that. An x850xt will probably last you awhile then. Although if you have any computer loving friends, maybe you could trade them your 9800pro + cash for a pci-e 6600gt, which should perform similarly or slightly better.

Your computer is fine right now. IMO, you don't need to upgrade *now*. My system is much worse than yours yet I'm not complaining-- P4 3GHz, 512 MB, 9700Pro, 80GB HD, etc. And that is indeed my gaming machine. :p

The person above recommending September-- wise timeframe to decide. At least let some of the newer hardware mature to make new revised boards and such...
