Not sure if this is the right place for this.

I have currently allocated myself $600 to upgrade my system.

I currently have and Abit MB Athlon 1700+ 1.4 Mg performs as fast as a 1.7 p3 or faster.

512 megs ram

ATI radeon 8500 64 megs

SB Live value

====================

I love the Abit MB not sure if should go AGP or PCI -E I will most likely not upgrade again for another 4 years.

Abit AN 8 Nvidia nForce 4 939 PCI-E

I am thinking the Athlon 64 3500+ OC to 3700+

1 Gig Memory

BFG 6600 GT OC 128 Meg video card. has real lifetime warranty comes already
Overclocked. comes in AGP and PCI-E

That may be stretching your budget a little, but it would be a nice upgrade. I recommend the nForce4 board as PCIe is what the graphics companies are moving to so you should be set for a future upgrade in that department. And if you are looking into overclocking you aren't going to want to skimp on memory, some high quality Corsair, OCZ, etc. will be a good choice. And what PSU (wattage/brand) do you own? If it is <400W and not made by a reputable company (i.e. Antec, Enermax, OCZ, PCP&C, etc.) than I would switch that out as well.

600 is hardly enough, try between to 700-800 after tax and shipping for a nice machine.

some questions for you..

what fast is your 512MB of ram?
what power supply do you currently have?

You will be stretching that PSU with the new setup, I would recommend upgrading to a 400W+ model of the aforementioned brands. What brand of memory do you have? Regardless, if you want best stability I would get two new matching sticks from the same manufacturer (unless you have a quality one right now that you can find a matching one for). To get a few bucks back you could sell what you currently have and use that money toward whatever goes above your original budget.

If you're not going to upgrade before 4 years.. god forbid, don't get that 6600 GT. Get a 6800 GT, or save up some cash for an ultra.. ^_^

350 watt psu Antec case

pc 3200 memory

thats not too bad, looks like you could use your old memory and psu and add another 512MB stick. assuming your power supply is a 350w antec smart psu it should be enough to power a s754 system with a 6600gt. the power draw from a 6600gt isnt that high really, its more like a 9600xt in power consumption (the 6800gt is a different sstory, i would recommend a new psu if you get one). if you decide to go s939 i HIGHLY recommend a new psu as your psu does not have a 24pin power plug for the nforce4 based motherboards. a 20 to 24 pin adapter is just asking for trouble. that being said i will hopefully have a reference system specced out for you as soon as i get home. :)
