I want to upgrade my graphics and get the best bang for my buck. I only want to spend around $50 or maybe $100 if that means selling my old card. I added a second monitor and I have noticed some of my games being little sluggish now. I currently have a 9800 GT 512MB. Should I get another 9800 GT 512MB and run SLI or keeping to my budget would it be better to buy two newer cards and run SLI?

no don't waste your money on another 9800GT.. i'm currently using 2 overclocked 8800GT's(same cards basically) definitely not worth the money. your best option is to try and find a used card.. if you don't care about dx11 see if you can find a used GTX 260 or 275 under 100 dollars. both cards are a huge improvement over the 9800GT. if you care about dx11 then try and find a used GTS 450, you might even be able to find a used GTX 460. also the HD 4850/4870/4890, 5770, or 5850 used(if you can find them under 100 bucks) are good options as well..

all the cards i mentioned above are significantly faster than the 9800GT.
 
Do not bother with SLI on 512mb cards at this point in time lol.
Definitely sell. Snag a 460 768mb minimum. Or a 5770/6770/7770. At least you'll see a fairly decent improvement without breaking the bank.
 
460 gtx 1gb for under 100, easily on the used market :) most 260's seem to be about $60 as well, if you want it to be that little. I run 2 in sli @ 2560x1440...they struggle. Considering AMD is dropping driver support for the 4 and 5 series cards, don't see the value doing that.

I thought it was 4 and under, 5xxx is not included.
 
I am glad I posted this because I was about ready to get another 9800. Thanks.. I am leaning towards a 460 GTX now.

doesn't really matter if they drop support, they got every thing they could out of the 3/4/5k series cards. all the stuffs still there, cfx profiles still get updated for them. theres just nothing to improve on with those cards/architectures performance wise. nvidia does the exact same thing, they don't support 8/9/200 series anymore either. doesn't mean the newest drivers don't work for them. just means they aren't improving performance on those cards.


GTX 460 is definitely the way to go if you can find one for the right price.
 
Definitely stick to nvidia with the lower end cards, just watch for a heat a bit on the 460 if I recall those had a bit of a high temp.
