Looking to upgrade video card. Running Win7 64 bit. Q6600 stock speeds 2.4 GHRz. Corsair 850 watt ps. $300. CDN range. Any help would be appreciated.

Radeon 6950, look for a reference model (prob only get them in stores now as they are the most likely to unlock)

Yep. The 6950 is the best video card you can get for under $300. Will max anything at 1920x1080 with the possible exception of Metro.

Might want to overclock the CPU a little though. Im not a big believer in CPU bottlenecks but 2.4 is mighty slow and will not let a 6950 stretch its legs as well.

Cpu is on stock cooler. Can I oc without upgrading? I have the Antec 900 so I have lots of air flow.

I'd get a new cooler, you can get some pretty good air coolers for around $30. Definitely second the OC, it will bottleneck the card

Yes you should definitely OC that cpu. I also agree that a 6950 is a great card in that price range. See if you can find the toxic or twin frozr ii oc or twin frozr iii pe. Those are the models likely to unlock.

Well got the XFX HD6950 2gb. In my bios I could not overclock cpu OEM? Is there a workaround?

No I haven't updated bios. Would need some guidance. Thanks for the help.

Bios 1201 seems to be the newest. First update the bios then pursue the overclocking. That bios can be downloaded from this page here

Here is a bios flash guide I found on google, with pictures and everything, should make the process easy for ya

Here are a few threads that give guidance on overclocking a Q6600 on your motheboard or a close relative to your motherboard (basically the same process)

Looks like 3.6Ghz is reachable with moderate work. You'll need a good aftermarket cooler though. Are you currently using the stock cooler?

Edit: Here is a youtube video for good measure http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slEwappTylI Search on youtube there are a few videos on this. :D
