The little white smoke recently escaped from my processor (Pentium D830 3.0G), so it's time to replace it as I understand they don't function well w/o the little white smoke.
My system: Asus P5N32 E Sli Plus m/b (socket 775), Dual 7900 GS video cards in SLI, 2 x 1G PQi Turbo SDRAM DDR2 667 Ram, Western Digital Caviar SE16 320GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0 G/s hard drive, Sony 16X DVD +/- DVD Burner, 19" 12ms LCD monitor. Running windows XP home edition SP2
I play World of Warcraft more than anything else and Blizzard does NOT support SLI, so it's probably a waste to put to much into the SLI video side of my system. However, I don't want to skimp on the other performance issues.
I'm thinking the Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 3.0G is a great bang for my buck at $325.00 with a FSB speed of 1333 MHz but I don't know enough about computers to know if the rest of my system will be able to take advantage of it. For example, is it worth upgrading the RAM to 800 ? Do I need to put two more sticks or RAM in my PC in order to take advantage of the dual core ? In other words, am I wasting my money and/or should I be investing in other areas of my pc ?
I look forward to any advice offered.
