Hey All,
I know this question has been BEAT TO DEATH...EVEN BY ME !!!

But here it goes....I have was just wondering how much of a performance difference would I see upgrading my current system An Asus A8V-Deluxe socket 939 with a 3200+ Venice (2.0 GHZ with 512 cache) to an Opteron 185 (2.6 GHZ with 2 megs of cache) ??

The machine has 2 gigs of Patriot DDR-400 Low latency memory timings of 2-3-2-5

It also uses a 74 GIG Raptor drive for the O/S and applications and a seperate one for the Photoshop scratch disk

My video card is a Radeon X800PRO 256 meg card

This machine PLAYS NO GAMES AT ALL !!!

It is used to rip movies to DVD,video editing, web surfing, and mainly digital photography and Photoshop !!!

is it better to upgrade the processor for say around $320 or build a new Core Duo2 machine for around $800...or maybe upgrade the motherboard to an NVIDIA NFORCE4 ???

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated to end this madness !!!

Thanks...shkj

No gaming huh. I would just upgrade to the opty. It will help somewhat with photoshop and dvd ripping.
Now if cash is not an issue then.......
You could add a raptor and do raid that would speed things up a bit.
