I'm looking to upgrade my asus geforce 630 (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8245491&CatId=3585) because i notice some of the newer games start to lag after a while. Didn't plan on using it for games but now that I got a sweet deal on an i5, might as well. :) Can anyone recommend a good bang for buck card around 100-120 max? I can't post a wtb due to my post count but prefer a new card anyways.

PC Specs:
i5 4670
8gb 1600 ddr3 ram
120gb ssd
coolermaster elite 130
550w psu
msi b85i

opinions on an R9 270x vs a gtx 750? R9 scoring better but i'm a fan of nvidia. don't plan on OC...for now.

Just so you know, the R9 270X is more comparable to the 760, not the 750. The R7 260 or 265 are more on par with the pricing of the 750.

I'd suggest nVidia. I'm not a fanboy or anything, I've just found that nVidia cards are less of a hassle to deal with; the drivers just work, every time. I used to buy AMD, but I had too many artifacting/blue-screen issues in my last build. A friend of mine also has had a lot of issues with his R9 280X (artifacting). Again, it's up to you, AMD cards are fantastic when they work properly. I'm just speaking from my own experience.

If I were you, I'd actually spend a tiny bit more and go for the 750 Ti, as well. It's a Maxwell card (nVidia's new architecture), uses less power, and you get a little more performance out of it (depending on what you're playing - http://www.anandtech.com/show/7764/the-nvidia-geforce-gtx-750-ti-and-gtx-750-review-maxwell)

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the feedback Chef. I use to have driver issues with amd way back in the day when I was OC and messing with pcs. was hoping that wasn't the case nowadays.

I assure you the AMD drivers right now are great and you have no reason NOT to go AMD. R9 270x is the superior card.

+1 on the 750Ti, specially if you want to play @1080p. Even reference designs overclock like crazy.

Actually if you're not into OC'ing things, I would grab the 750Ti, if you do like to OC grab a 265.... I'm not to found of anything other than R9's though....

Doesn't that chip turbo to 3.8ghz? I'd say even a 780/290 would be fine :)

Oops just saw the budget, 750 it is, or get a good deal on a 270x/7870 ghz ed. (still love my 7870ghz edition) :)

Bought a 750 ti for myself, love it.
It doesn't require any additional power so you're not going to have to upgrade a PSU yet still enjoy a great 1080p performance with PhysX as a bonus in some games.
