Upgrade from Socket 478

Upgrading a very very Old build.

Old comp:
478 socket pentium 4
Abit ic7-g mobo
radeon 1250 ( i think ) use to be a 9600 pro before it died some years ago.

bascially I just want to do an upgrade for as cheap as possible. Something that can decently run rpgs / fps games. May end up giving to my little bro or something or just use for media / tv.

Nothing over $300-$400(max) if possible for a Mobo Cpu and Vid Card. I can find / use old parts for everything else. Hdd might be the only thing i would need which is $50

You also forgot RAM: That old ABIT mobo uses DDR1 memory, which no recent system uses - and the used prices for DDR1 memory are now much higher than it is currently worth. For your budget it's a no-brainer to get an inexpensive AMD CPU (around $100 to $140), an inexpensive AM3 mobo (~$80), 4GB of DDR3-1333 RAM (~$40) and a decent AMD HD 5xxx-based graphics card ($120~$150) (all prices are for new). Don't get an AM3/AM2+/AM2 motherboard; such a mobo uses only DDR2 memory which is now more expensive per GB than DDR3 memory. And if you choose the right combination of my suggestions, you will come in under your stated $400 limit.
