Hey guys -

I currently have a GTX 260 (216 core) running with my i5-2500k/asus ASUS P8P67 setup. Given all the deals with the gtx 460 and 6850s, would it be worth it to upgrade and get one of those? And perhaps getting another 6850 in the future?

Thanks in advance

I upped to the 460, and honestly, except for BC2 running smoother and looking better I kind of regret it.

I went from my GTX 260 216core to a 6870 and am very happy with it

I've gamed with GTX260-216 cards. Nice card, was able to do the following:

Mass Effect 2, smooth game play using no AA @ 1920 x 1200 resolution
Never was able to play Crysis 1920 x 1080 no AA Very High, had to use High, and also turn down particles, textures, etc to get smooth gameplay

I found the 460GTX 768MB model noticeably faster than GTX260-216 and 460GTX has new Anti-Alias setting in selction menu ... AAx32 ;)

Can play Mass Effect 2 @ 1920 x 1080 AAx8 (single card) and fps stays pegged at 62 (limited to 62fps max via setting in ME2)
Crysis @ 1920 x 1080 no AA all setting on Very High and smooth game play. After going SLI with 460GTX, all I can say is :)

Also, 460GTX has DX11 if you're into that kind of stuff and considering you can nab a 460GTX 768MB card (often) at Newegg Open Box for $116 + S/H well, you decide.

... and Oh! Did I mention SLI ?

Some say 460GTX 768MB in 2-way SLI is same or faster than single 480GTX card but I don't have a 480GTX to confirm if their data is accurate (though I would tend think it is, depending on who did the testing)

I use MSI N460GTX 768MB Cyclones in 2-way SLI and they love when I use gobs of AA

Mass Effect 2 @ 1920 x 1080 with SLI-AAx16Q gets 62fps (pegged always)

460GTX 768MB scales extremely well and loves to be OCed ... IMO

Thanks much for the suggestion. Given the mobo I have, I believe I can only Xfire with ATI cards. Is 1x6850 now worth it and then pick up a 2nd one down the line?

as soon as the gtx560 comes out next week many cards will may down and price. but yeah the 6850 would be the very minimum to upgrade too. a gtx460 is a very minuscule upgrade to a gtx260 especially the 768mb model.

HD6850 is a good choice, typically a 50% improvement on a GTX260 (216 core). The 35% or so from a GTX460 1GB is borderline worth it unless you overclock really. The upcoming GTX560 will probably be about an 85% increase, but it'll be a lot more expensive, probably around the $270 mark.

Went from a 275 to a 460 and it was more a side grade imo.The only benefit was DX11

6870 or 560 minimum if you want to really notice the difference.

I'm in the same boat. Once I get my tax return back I have narrowed it down to a gtx 560 - depending on how they are once released, a 6950 or maybe even splurge with a gtx 570. Prices may be very different a month from now.

I am going from GTX 280 to SLI 460 GTX or CrossFire 6850's I have not decided yet trying to get more input before pulling trigger since I want it to last me a few years. Both are faster than than GTX 580 the top end card right now and cost a lot less. With deals $200 and $280 respectively.

Yeah the GTX580 is about double the performance of a GTX280, just over. It also uses even more power.
ZoNe: Don't go with two 768MB cards, they don't have the memory to back up their performance. It has to either be 1GB GTX460 SLI, or HD6850 Crossfire. The latter is quite a bit faster, and a lot more efficient. Usually cheaper too.

I'm also thinking about upgrading, since I play at 1920x1200. My new i2500k allows me now to play BC2 at max settings but I still get the occasional dip when there's tons going on

So I'm in the same upgrade boat as you guys, and having been out of the game so long, I'm clueless as to what would be a good upgrade for my system. Here are the specs (this is from memory, since I'm at work):

Intel E6750 @ 3.6 ghz
4 GB DDR2 ram
ATI HD4870 512 MB
Corsair 620-HX power supply
1920 x 1080 monitor

I just got my monitor, and I don't have enough room for a second monitor, so I don't see myself going above 1920 x 1080 for the forseeable future. What is a good graphics card that is semi-future proof (I know such a thing doesn't really exist, but my overclocked HD4870 has been good to me for the last 2+ years) at that resolution for under $300?

Also, as an aside, I was thinking of upgrading to the new SB Intel processors, probably the 2500k. So if someone was going to tell me that I would be bottlenecking one of these new video cards, take that into consideration  Though I have been realy happy with how my E6750 has held up since I got it in 2007

also, I bet the increase of emptiness in your wallet was rather impressive :)

I paid far less for mine than most. :D I got it for $409 brand new from EVGA due to still having $90 EVGA bucks left from the $150 i got back from buying the aforementioned GTX280.

Hello Everyone,

I currently have two GTX 260 in 2 way SLI and I'm experiencing poor performance in most of my games. I'm reaching out to you guys for help. I have tried to gather as much as information as possible to help you guys understand whats going on.

Currently i'm noticing that both of my GPU's are at 100% percent usage when playing almost any game. In this example i'm playing Battlefield Bad Company 2. Screenshot link listed below.

What is going on is that I will be playing for awhile then i will start noticing some heavy latency in my games. I'm also providing a screenshot of the game settings:

Previously i had an XFX 780i motherboard with a Quad core 9300 2.5ghz and my GPU would average around 80% usage while my CPU around 30 - 70% usuage. I have a feeling that my new i7 is bottlenecking my GPU's. My new i7 averages at almost exactly 30% usuage, seems to be hardly doing any work.

Please feel free to ask me questions about my setup. My signature should contain all my system specs. Below are more screenshots of CPUZ and GPUZ. Please help! thanks!

I upgraded to GTX460 and didn't notice any improve, so I went to 5870. I really love it now.

A GTX 460 1Gb manually OCed to around 850 on the core isn't a "side grade". It will hang with a stock GTX 470 or even pass it in many titles.

Of course buy the best you can afford. Thing is many GTX 460 1Gb cards are around 160usd or even lower AR. That's hell of a lot of card for the asking price particularly once OCing is factored in.

A GTX 560 OCed to 1000MHz on the core would be a heck of a card too and they're at least 250usd.
