Upgrade from E6400 to E6850

Looking to upgrade my CPU, had the E6400 running at 3.2GHz... for about a year. I'm not looking to upgrade my 680i just yet.

Is it worth it? @ $279.00 special from newegg. Can I get 3.8GHz on Air Cooling?

Also, will it run in my original first version evga 680i with latest BIOS P31.
 
once again, it's your money but seriously, do you really think that you will notice a huge differenc between 3.2 ghz and 3.8 ghz to justify $279.00?

or does closer to 4 ghz make you feel better? if that's the case,buy it..
other than that, i can't picture myself doing it..

As pointed out. It's not like you're CPU bound as it is. I know your current overclock doesn't look as impressive, but you won't really see differrence between the two.

Your money though. If pushing your system to the max makes you happy, go for it. :)

Maybe on air and how lucky u are on the cpu draw.
Some do 4ghz rather easy and some dont.
If ur lucky you get low vcore up to that 3.8ghz and then air is definitly possible.

I changed from a 3050mhz 6600 to a e6750 3.8ghz on watercooling.
having a cpu for a year is a long time in this business ;)
 
Ya at 1 year on my setup... So I'm going with this upgrade... Until I go with Yorkfield 9550 when prices come down...
 
Current 680i's support Wolfdales. Still up in the air whether they will support Yorkfields with a BIOS update.
 
y dont u go with e6750 then sell ur e6400? whats what i did and it makes a lot more sense than getting e6850, if i wanted i could run 3.8 or even 3.9 daily. my mobo doesnt like 4ghz but the chip could run at that speed stable. i dont know if its justifiable to spend maybe 180 bucks for e6850 upgrade vs just 90 bucks for e6750 upgrade if ur gonna get the same result (assuming ur cpu sells for 100 which it will)
