Hey All,

I'm looking to upgrade my HD 5770 card to something better. My end goal would be to allow me to run WoW on max settings @ 1920x1080 and get decent FPS while watching windows media center on the second monitor without lag.

I'm willing to jump away ATI if necessary.
 
Blizzard has added modern graphic features over the last several years. I think there is a DX11 code path for it. I think the OP needs more than just a gpu upgrade to get what they want though.

i have changed the game to use dx11.

I was always of the mind set that if the CPU has an average use of 3% while gaming and my GPU is @ 97% during wow (only) that my issue would be with the GPU.

If I'm not pegging my CPU or even using 10% of it, why would i need to upgrade it?

Really. You think he needs to upgrade an i7 950 for wow? That just sounds silly. Might try to sell the 5770 and pick up a 6950 if you can afford it. A 6870 should do good if on a tighter budget.
 
I have a 5870 and I run WoW on ultra except shadows at 1920 x 1200. A 6870 would probably max it out with no problem.

Sorry for the late reply. All I am saying is that in my experience(with MMOs), just a GPU upgrade won't have the impact he is looking for.

and an i7 950 is more then current for gaming. It exceeds the specifications actually.
 
What is your budget? We can list you a lot of powerful cards, but once we know how much you are willing to spend, we can lead you to the right direction.
 
I recently upgraded from a 5770 to a 5870 (due to $150 deals going around at Geeks and GearXS) and play @ 1920x1080 and paired with a i5-750 @ 3.8GHz.

I do not run dual monitors though so maybe it would be better if you get a 6950 2GB or any such card with more video memory.
 
How much ram do you have? BC my setup is close to yours, with an normal i7 920 instead of an OC i7 950, and I can play wow at max with a constant 60fps, and have a movie going on in the next screen no problem.
 
A CFX 5770 lies between a 5870 and 6950 (overall performance-wise), so that would be a good way to go too!
 
Depends how desperate you are, but I'd personally wait for the 7xxx series to be released (Feburary for most) and look at the benchmarks (and hopefully price drops of 6xxx series).
 
I have the 5750, I run 80-120fps on High settings at 1920x1080 on a 23" LED Acer. plus other games im running at 60+fps on High settings. (skyrim/wow/Assasins Creed/ Fallout) and BF3 is the only game and Crysis taht i still manage to have to drop to medium for smoother game play.

Wait til the HD 7K series, that will be the solid stand point for alot of us upgrading i believe in the near future.

Are you having issues with the 5770?? what are you currently getting for quality and frames on it? Id venture to say better then mine at more stream processes and a slightly faster clock.
