Well, I am looking to upgrade my Dad from his Ti4400 to prepare him for the new games this year. I'm looking for something in the $200 range. Yes I know what cards exist in that category but I want to hear from your personal experiences and then make my decision that way.

For reference his specs are:

P4 [email protected]
2x256mb Corsair PC3200
Abit IS7-E

Thanks in advance.

I just got my BFG 5900NU w/VIVO yesterday. I got it for $199, but it's down to $184 now. Overclocked it to 480/910 and it is running smooth (the 5950 is 475/950). If ATI is more your cup of tea, the 9700 pro is a great deal as well. It is available now for $209. You'll be happy with either card. Cards I would stay away from are the 9600XT and 5700U. The performance difference between the higher end card listed above is well worth the small price difference.

Go for a 5700U or 9600XT. If a 9700 is under 200$, that is also a great choice.

Good luck

I agree with this 100%. I upgraded from a Ti4400 to a 9600pro, and while it was faster, it wasn't enough that I really noticed a huge difference. Like obs posted above, you should get someting in the 5900/9700 range or higher.

Now I'm selling both my 4400 and 9600pro, and hoping I get enough to make a 9800pro affordable.

I like my 4400, get him more RAM instead. Then upgrade his graphics card after DOOM3 and Half-life2 are released.

personally, i'd wait till the next generation of cards before upgrading from a ti4400.

Nice find with the NU, too bad their ResselerRating is like 5.5 or something. Might order it though, since the price is so damn good. How was your experience?
