A friend of mine is itching to upgrade his old 5850. He wants to spend under $200. He was looking at an EVGA gtx 650 ti for $170 but I feel like at that price a 7850 would be better. I don't really know why he is upgrading as the only game he plays usually is dota 2 or l4d2.

At that price range the GTX 660 and the HD 7870 are also possibilities.

What say you hardforum?

I myself have a 7850 that I love (40% gpu overclock is wonderful but that's not guaranteed with all cards) so I am partial to that option, but I would love to hear your opinions.

Sell that 5850 for enough to up his budget to $250 and grab a GTX 760. It's a no-brainer for anybody in that price range, IMHO.

I've seen some 7870's go on sale for $199, from time to time. That would be another option to think about.

just upgraded my wife from that same card. galaxy 650 ti boost
139 bucks.
can't beat it.
should run a whole lot better
