I am thinking of upgrading my two 6970's to something a bit more up to date, as long as it's an actual upgrade. The image is being pushed to a 1080p monitor, and a 1680X1050 22 inch.

I'd like to play most games at "high/ultra" as much as I can. Any suggestions?

R9 280X will be your friend.. or wait to see what a R9 290 Can do and oficial prices..

Good point.

Around 300-400 max.

Definitely wait around to check out the R9 290 non-X. May be worth the upgrade over the regular 7970, especially if it flies in @ the $400 mark.

If the R9 290 underwhelms for the price, a $300 Newegg 7970 has your name written all over it.

Good point.

Around 300-400 max.

the R9 290 launches on Oct 15th and is likely to be priced at USD 450. if its any higher you can stick to R9 280X (get the ASUS R9 280X DCII TOP). but at USD 450 its worth the buy. wait till 15th for reviews and then decide.

Aren't 2 6970s overclocked pretty close to a single 7970 non overclocked? So that would mean you should look at a 780 and a r9 290.

your 6970 xfire setup is more than adequate for your resolution

spend money if you want, bit I'd wait

I had a 6970 before. Just don't get a gtx 770 because it, is only as powerful as 2 6970s!
