Hey all .Step by step been upgrading the comp.

Been getting some good advice from the forums.

Anyway i own a wd 100gb from before their first 120 gb model had come out.(wd1000bb i think?)

If I upgrade to a newer drive say a new hitachi 7k250 will I see a decrease in load times?

Im kicking around a overclocked 2.4c to 3.1 with a gig of ram.

That WD really isn't that bad of a drive. List the rest of your system out because I bet there is something else you could upgrade that would help out a bit more in the performance area than a new HD.

Heh actually Ive got about everything else covered :).

2.4c at 3.1
1gb ram
ic7
8x plextor dvd burner
22" diamond pro
6800 bfg gt
audigy 2
klipsch 4.1
antec 430 true
antec p 160

I mean I can get a little better but not really for the cost of investment.

Ya, the rest of your system is pretty good. The only thing I can see that you could really improve on would be the HD situation or a little faster CPU. Have you looked at SCSI yet?

One of the reasons i was looking at the sata was because of the middle ground between size and speed. Was just seeing how much of a speed difference there would actually be.

I thought about hitting the amd64 upgrade route but at the same time Im not really hurting as far as frame rates go for the most part.

neweggs got raptor2s witha $20 rebate, I love mine and I do notice a performance increase from my WD80Gig SE.
