Upgrade - Crossfire worth it for intel?

I am trying to figure out whether I should go towards AMD or intel on this. The main reason why I think intel would be a better choice, is that intel seams to be sticking with socket 775, while AMD is a little sketchy on where they are going with AM2. What I'm planning on doing is getting a pentium D 930, crossfiring 2 x1600xt's, and slapping 2gb of ram on top of that.

Planning on using this computer to play battlefield 2, and to be able to run the Source engine well.

Sounds like a good plan, but keep in mind that not all Socket 775 boards will support conroe (if you want your board to have an upgrade path). For intel you're looking at some specific 975 boards and the 965 boards when more of them start coming out. Not sure about the non-intel chipsets.

Curious, why two x1600xt's instead of a single faster card (with the option to add a 2nd later)?

I had the same question. One X1900XT is faster than two X1600XT's right?

Oh yeah. By more than some. And Conroe really unleashes the power of the high end video cards.
Use the fastest card you can find and you will be blown away.
