ok so im getting tired of the slow speed celeron 2.4 in my dell inspiron 1100

I belive that the fastest chip I cna put in is a p4 2.6ghz, anyone know of where I can find this online cheaper then say newegg?

also what are the heat issues regarding the upgrade, and the difference in power

Will a difference between celeron 2.4 and p4 2.6 be noticible?

thanks
Craig

What are the other specs? If you have shitty memory and video card and HD then the small upgrade will not be noticable. However if your processor is holding you back then maybe... celerons never impressed me much

If I remember correctly a Celeron runs approx. the same temp. as a P4 of equivalent speed. I could be wrong though.

I remember a long time ago when I switch a Celeron 533A in a desktop to a P3 at only 866Mhz it was a big change in the overal zippiness of the computer.
I don't really think it was the 300+ mhz switch that boosted it up
but the class upgrade from Celeron to Pentium.

So I think you will feel the change.

Actually, the fastest proc for the i1100 is a P4 2.8GHz, they're hard to find, but I got one off eBay for $147 BIN, and it works great!! Also, don't worry about heat, the wattage is the same, so it does not produce more heat than any other pentium 4. You can find it on TigerDirect or eBay, not many other places list a P4 2.8GHz w/ a 400MHz fsb.

I got the same setup as you but got a 2.2 Celeron, I Plan on upgrading over the summer to a gig of Ram and changing my hd to a nice 7200rpm and hopefuly the 2.8 :)

Tell us how the 2.8 goes when ya get it

im going to get rid of the i1100, and am looking towards the t series IBM's right now.

too muhc i wanted to change on the 1100, so alot easier to just get a new one....
now to get the money.....

I have the 2.8 now, I installed it, put on some generic silver thermal compound, and booted up. The intel inside logo changes form the intel inside symbol to the P4 symbol. It booted and recognized the new proc fine. I definitly notice faster boot/app start times. With I8Kfangui I get the same tempertures with the P4 2.8 as I did with my Cel 2.0. :p

You can get any P4/Celeron for the i1100 as long as it is socket 478 and 400mhz fsb. :D

I plan to upgrade my mem to a gig, and then upgrade my HDD to a 60GB 7200rpm 16MB cache drive.

Then my only weak point will be the gfx card, but I don't game a whole lot so not a prob for me. ;)

Oh yea I also would get a 15'' lcd but the prices top $250 on eBay!

You ran any tests yet?, I'm intrested at what Performance increase you get
