The thread title is a bit misleading, but bear with me.
I have a motherboard which supports the Banias Pentium M out of the box. A BIOS revision allows the board to support Dothan Pentium Ms as well.
I have the motherboard and Dothan Pentium M (model 735, 1.7 GHz) in front of me. However, I'm not getting a video signal. I figure, hey, this must be because of the unsupported CPU in the socket.
So how do I get past this problem? Also, I don't have a floppy drive convenient, but I was going to make a bootable CD with the BIOS upgrade files. What do I need to do? This problem is certainly one that many of you have encountered, but strangely, in my several years of experience I haven't.
I can always fall back on sending the BIOS chip to the manufacturer and requesting an upgraded version of the chip, but that takes time and trouble. Meanwhile, my hardware is getting old, and I have some very realistic possibilities for software-based Pentium M overclocking, which is pretty exciting.
