I have around a 1.5k budget to upgrade my current computer. The only components I'm looking to upgrade are the mobo/CPU/video card. I currently have a A-bit IC7-G/P4 3.2/6800GT.

I'm not looking to go top of the line -- I want to wait a bit until the new video cards/dual core processors settle down in price.

I was looking at the Abit AN8 Ultra with a PCIE 7800GTX (may even consider getting the 6800GT PCIe version and wait it out until the next gen of video cards) and a A64 4000+ Clawhammer. This combination comes out to around 1k so I have some cash to spare for any changes. Would this setup keep me pretty future proof? I don't know much about AMD CPU's so any advice would be great. What would you guys go for with 1.5k with price vs. performance in mind for those components? TIA.
 
If you are not looking to go top of the line then don't go with the 7800GTX and 4000+ :p

If I had that much cash that's what I would do (SLI mobo, 7800GTX, 4000+)
