For Christmas, I'm going to be upgrading to a larger, 24in. monitor. I currently use my machine for gaming and general browsing/school related needs. In my current set up I've been able to get away with the 8800GT because I'm only running games at 1440x900, but I'm afraid with making the jump to a 24in. monitor, the 8800GT won't be enough to run mw2/borderlands without turning down settings.

Any suggestions for an upgraded video card?

I'd love to build a full new system with i7, ssd, ddr3, etc but I just don't have the funds for a full upgrade currently.I'm not looking to rebuild a full machine, I just don't want to see a fps drop when going to the higher resolution.

On a side note: I was looking around for deals on a TN panel and everything seems to be 16:9 at 1920x1080 as opposed to the 16:10 being 1920x1200. The way I see it is by going 16x9 you are giving up useful, vertical screen real estate so that your monitor matches movie/tv resolutions. Am I thinking about that the right way? I really don't mind having black bars on the top and bottom while watching movies/tv at the computer. Reason I ask is, I wonder if it's worth it to wait for a deal on a 16:10
 
I just went through the same thing. Upgraded from 19" to 25" on a hd 4850. I had to turn down too many settings so i bought a gtx 285 off the forums for 210 and it was a good investment. If you want to go brand new, 5850 will fit the bill but will be around 300.
 
well if you go 1920x1200 of course will be better and with a 4890 will be good to play most of the games
 
Agreed, 16:10 is the way to go. I'd also recommend a 4890 or 5850, depending on your budget. It'd also be a good boost to overclock that Q6600 to at least 3.0GHz, as that will really unlock some performance in your system as well.
