Hey guys,

I currently run a 9800GX2 and game at 1920x1200. I came into some money and was looking to upgrade my card. I primarily play Age of Conan and will be playing Starcraft 2 when it releases.

I am looking at the GTX295 or the GTX285, and MAYBE the 4870x2. What would you guys recommend and why?

Would the performance between the 9800GX2 and the GTX285 be similar?

what does the rest of your system look like??

Sorry, should have included that in my original post.

Abit IP35-Pro
Q6600 @ 3.6GHZ
4GB of Ram
EVGA 9800GX2
PCP&C Silencer 750
blah blah blah

Gaming at 1920x1200.

I have seen on a few reviews where a single gtx295 will outperform the gtx285. The gtx 285 in SLI however shows it bypassing the single gtx295. If you want to stick to nvidia and go SLI I would suggest the gtx285. If you want SLI in a card than go for the gtx295. As far as ATI the 4890 has a very good price point and in CF it performs as well as the gtx285 in SLI.

of course a gtx295 will be beat a gtx285 in 99% cases. the only time it wouldnt would be where there was an sli issue or the 896mb of ram wasnt enough.

Oh I know :) Was just letting him know in case he wanted to stay single card or go SLI :)

I'm trying to stick with a 1 card solution. I guess the only options are the GTX295 or the 4870x2. I threw in the GTX285, hoping that it could maybe come close or match the performance of the previous two. And I'm a bit cautious about the 4870x2, I've heard numerous people say that ATI makes some buggy drivers.

I don't really play any other games currently. I did play CS:S, but microstuttering is so bad with the 9800GX2 that I stopped. The only game I play now is Age of Conan. In that game, when stuff gets bad, FPS drops to 20ish. I'd like to play Age of Conan in its full glory, without having a slowdown.

ReconSniper, I'll definitely hit you up once I figure out what I'm going to do.

Not sure on ATI drivers. Im planning on going to the 4890 for my new build and hoping for a smooth experience. The gtx285 runs pretty close to the gtx295. I know FPS benchmarks vary from site to site, but I saw one with Crysis for example the gtx295 getting an average of 31 FPS and the gtx285 getting an average of 20 FPS

the GTX285 is way better than the 9800gx2 in general. In most cases, you cant really tell the difference. But when you try it with really high end setting and high AA, the GTX285 shows what its got.
plus 9800gx2 runs pretty hot. about 70c regularly
