Well I plan to do a upgrade for my birthday. Looking at my sig you'd think I am crazy to upgrade it ? But I am a [H]ardcore Gamer (addictive to upgrades )

Here's my issue, my eVga 6800Ultra has been giving me wierd issues when playing games, it will lock up/freeze alot in CS-S, Joint Op's and Doom3. I had this same system, just with a 9800Pro before and ZERO problems. I reformatted and the Ultra is just not working out right in this rig.
But I tried the 6800Ultra in my bro's AMD system and it ran perfect. So here are my two upgrade options;

- Athlon64 3500 + nForce3 motherboard

or

- ATI X800XT

If I go the Athlon64 route, then I will keep my 6800Ultra, or I can ditch the video card, and get the X800XT which will work no problem in my currebt setup.

Opinions

Why not spend the money on more worthwhile things, and spend a little time figuring out the problem with your machine. I think that would be quite wasteful to spend money on an upgrade right now.

trust me, my bro and I spent a solid day trying to figure the issues I was having with my 6800Ultra.

I even reinstalled my OS from scratch, and also 3 different nVidia driver sets.

I downclocked the core to match 2d/3d and nothing

Turned off FastWrites and same issues

Wierd thing it works in my bro's system no problem, and my 2nd rig which is P4 2.4ghz 845chipset

Have you tried calling eVGA? I've had great experiences in the past dealing with them in the past.

When you say that it worked perfectly in your bros computer, do you mean that you actually put your card in his comp, or he has another card "just like" yours?

If the first is true, then you know for sure the card is fine, so it has to be something else, which would lead me to tell you to go the processor/motherboard route. If you mean he was using a different card, then you should call evga to try to figure something out.

I meant I put "my" card into his computer and had no problems, and I also put it in my 2nd rig, which is a 2.4ghz P4, and was able to play CounterStrike-Source for an hour striaght with ZERO problems, before on my system CS-S wouldnt last 10-15min before a lock up, then a wierd sound from speakers, and reboots by itself ?

Hah! Welcome to the club.

My computer has been doing this for the length of its existence. I've been through 3 video cards and a lot of other junk and I still can't figure it out. I would contact eVGA even if it is working in your other computer and your brothers.

As for either of those upgrades, I wouldn't recommend the AMD 64 system because you won't be getting a motherboard with any form of PCI-X. Unless of course I'm mistaken.

Do you and your brother have the same PSU?

my main rig is a Antec 480watt TruBlue, my 2nd rig is a Antec 400watt, Bro's is a Thermaltake 480watt
