Upgrade advice for next 6 months

Current system specs:

i7 2600k @4.3-4.4ghz
Gigabyte G1 980 Ti
16GB Corsair Vengeance low profile RAM
Asus P8Z68-v Pro Gen3 mobo
960 GB M500 SSD

The mobo / CPU / RAM are almost 5 years old. That's what I'll be upgrading unless I decide to get one of those fancy m2 SSDs.

What should I upgrade to in terms of CPU / Mobo / RAM considering I'll be keeping the rest of the system for at least 4-5 more years unless I get the itch to upgrade the GPU / SSD? I'll likely be upgrading in February of 2017 - not sure what tech is on the horizon or what I should shoot for, but I'd expect to invest at least $800 in the core components. What will that net me?
 
I would aim for a 5820K with a decent X99 motherboard, and 4x8gb DDR4, at least 2400 mhz. $390 for CPU, $250 for motherboard, and about $110-160 for RAM.

So, a 5820K is better than what would be coming out in the next 6 months?

Based on current trends, your budget, and the state of hardware, yes. However, it is impossible to predict the future with certainty, so ask again in 6 months or whenever you actually plan to buy.
 
Yeah, best advice is to look and ask again about 30 days before you plan to buy/build.
