So I was reading about the processors and I'm wondering if the K is worth it this round. I seen that Intel disabled some extensions on the K series and I'm wondering how that would affect things compared to the extra little bit you might be able to squeeze out of it. I don't care about the maximum OC as much as I care about my system running quietly without any issues and headaches.
Mainly going to be gaming, some photoshop/lightroom, ripping, etc. Normal stuff. Can't see getting into VM, coding, etc.

What say ye?

The extensions excluded are generally to prevent cannibalization of their workstation/server products. The K variant will be better for your usage.

Reviews say zero OC on non-K chips, so unless zero is what you would target on a K then you want a K.

You'll only be missing out on vPro, TXT, VT-d, and SIPP (according to AnandTech), which, while I only vaguely know what those things are, I know that I don't use them (mostly enterprise/remote management and virtualization type stuff, not stuff that most people use). Unless you know that you specifically need one of those things (which you won't for normal computing uses) then definitely get the K.

Non K looks useless to me. Well, concerning my needs.

I've seen some reviews say you can and others that say you can't. The truth is that Intel only sent out K chips to reviewers so they were all speculating.

I never saw the value in the K line if one is not going to overclock.

To me the question is easily answered by determining if overclocking is in the cards or not.
