Every three months this year I've faithfully D/L a new client beta for SMP.

I got lazy and decided to see what would happen if I didnt change clients......
so far my boxes are folding away and the points are registering as usual....

Any opinions on this????
Thanks.:D

Unless the old client expires, then there's no point in messing with something that works. Doing so is just asking for problems :D

If a beta client expires, it will not recheck the expiration date until it is restarted.

If you client expires, and you reboot (as said above) your SMP box will no longer fold.

So you should get the new client. Xilikon found a way to avoid some of the install issues by simply swapping the new ".exe" for the old one. Then there is nothing to install and many install issues are avoided.

Has there been a new client released recently?

I noticed that my XP SMP boxen were unable to get on the internet because my firewall, Zone Alarm, noticed that the program had changed to something different. So Zone Alarm was looking for my permission to let fah access the internet and accept connections.

My boxes run 24/7 so they dont restart per se.
I looked on the Stanford site, but the beta revision # is not posted. I think the last quarter was version 5.
I have the clients D/L and would just need to install them in a new folder.....but I thought I'd chance it......so far so good, but the month is only 3 days in.....

The next update of the beta clients is on the 1st Feb.
Stanford thought that trying to update their clients on the 1st Jan was probably not a good idea.
I don't know why ............ :p

Luck ................ :D

Well, there you go then.
No wonder I had no problems.
Thanks, I'll change on Feb 1.

Just changing the .exe file will force your firewall to ask for permission again. Annoying yes, but at least you know your firewall is working.
